An Act to expand equity and access to patient centered care for substance abuse disorder

This bill directs the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and the Board of Registration in Medicine to launch an education campaign encouraging healthcare providers to use all FDA-approved medications for treating alcohol and opioid use disorders. The program includes mandatory training on screening, treatment planning, and addressing co-occurring mental health issues, with providers earning continuing education credits for completion. To further support this initiative, the bill establishes a peer mentoring network for experienced clinicians and creates a grant program to help providers hire additional staff for expanded services. Finally, the Department of Public Health must create an inventory of participating providers and submit a report to state committees detailing the number of trained providers and any barriers to expanding access.
