An Act to improve transparency in alleged police misconduct

This bill amends Massachusetts law to increase transparency in investigations following deaths or serious injuries involving law enforcement officers. It allows the attorney general, district attorneys, police chiefs, and city or town executives to request a formal inquest whenever there is reasonable suspicion that an officer violated laws while on duty. The inquest process grants the right to the accused officer and their legal counsel to be present, present witnesses, and examine the final report, while also ensuring that family members of the deceased or injured are notified and permitted to attend.
