Workgroup to Study Implementation of an Expanded 3-1-1 Nonemergency System

The bill title and purpose were changed from studying a 'Statewide 3-1-1 Nonemergency Telephone System' to studying a 'Statewide an Expanded 3-1-1 Nonemergency Telephone System'.

The workgroup's study requirements were expanded to include best practices for providing an expanded 3-1-1 system, solutions for expanded system limitations, development of a plan for an expanded system, identification of appropriate oversight for an expanded system, and development of an expanded virtual 3-1-1 portal.

The chair of the workgroup was changed from the Secretary of Emergency Management to the Secretary of Emergency Management Information Technology.

Staffing for the workgroup was changed from the Maryland Department of Emergency Management to the Maryland Department of Emergency Management Information Technology, with assistance from the Department of Legislative Services.
