An Act To Update The Requirements For Social Worker Licensure

This bill (LD 2074) directs the Director of the Office of Professional and Occupational Regulation to continue reviewing Maine's social work licensure rules (Maine Revised Statutes, Title 32, Chapter 83) in consultation with the State Board of Social Worker Licensure and stakeholders. The review will focus on updating educational, examination, and consultation requirements for initial licensure, as well as developing alternative pathways for licensure. The Director must report recommendations to the relevant legislative committee by February 15, 2027, which could lead to future legislation. This bill does not change current licensure rules but establishes a process for future updates to the social work profession's licensing framework.
