An Act To Establish The Municipal Shoreline Protection Legal Fund
This bill establishes the Municipal Shoreline Protection Legal Fund to help Maine municipalities cover legal costs when pursuing serious (egregious) shoreland zoning violations. The fund, initially funded with $100,000 from the General Fund for fiscal year 2025-26, is administered by the Office of Policy Innovation and the Future. Municipalities receiving funds must reimburse the fund within six months of a legal settlement or final court decision. The fund must maintain a minimum $100,000 balance annually, with interest earned credited back to the fund.
