An Act To Establish A Statewide Sexual Assault Forensic Examination Kit Tracking System And Conduct An Inventory Of Existing Forensic Examination Kits In The Possession Of Law Enforcement

This bill establishes a statewide tracking system for sexual assault forensic examination kits and requires law enforcement agencies to store completed kits for 20 years, even if the alleged crime was never reported. The system mandates that various entities, including crime laboratories, healthcare providers, and law enforcement agencies, log specific details about each kit's journey, such as when it is received, used, transferred, or discarded. Victims of sexual assault will have secure, anonymous access to view the status and location of their kits through this system. Additionally, the state Department of Public Safety must create and maintain this database using available resources and submit annual reports to the legislature and the governor starting in 2026.
