An Act To Ensure Equity In Career And Technical Education Staffing Support Ratios Across Varied Regions Of The State

This bill directs the Maine Department of Education to provide additional funding to career and technical education centers and regions serving fewer than 1,000 students in grades 9 through 12. The goal is to ensure these smaller areas can maintain a staffing ratio of at least one full-time instructor for every eight students enrolled in approved programs. To receive these funds, the affected centers must submit an annual calculation by September 30 showing the gap between their current funding and the amount needed to meet the staffing standard. The department is then required to verify these calculations and distribute the necessary payments by November 30. The legislation includes a $1 million appropriation for the 2024-25 fiscal year to support this initiative.
