LD 1152 Maine Senate · 131st Legislature (2023-2024)

An Act To Make Long-Term Disability Insurance Coverage Available To Public Employees

This bill requires public employers in Maine to offer long-term disability insurance coverage to their employees starting July 1, 2025. The state will cover 100% of the insurance premiums, while the monthly benefits provided will range between $100 and $8,000 based on the employee's potential retirement income. Employers must either provide this coverage directly or arrange for a substantially equivalent plan from another source. The legislation applies to members of the Maine Public Employees Retirement System as well as participants in the state's defined contribution plan.
