MTR VEHICLE/COMPULS INS: Permits the impoundment of out-of-state vehicles not covered by compulsory liability insurance

This bill requires out-of-state vehicles operating in Louisiana to display proof of compulsory liability insurance, extending the state's insurance requirements to vehicles registered elsewhere. If a driver cannot show valid insurance documentation when asked by law enforcement, the vehicle may be impounded and the driver issued a notice of noncompliance. The law also allows officers to remove Louisiana license plates from out-of-state vehicles that fail to meet insurance requirements and mandates that copies of noncompliance notices be sent to the Department of Motor Vehicles within three days. These enforcement procedures apply to all motor vehicles operated on Louisiana public highways, regardless of where they are registered.
