TAX/GAMING: Increases the state tax levied on certain gaming and dedicates the proceeds of the tax for certain purposes
HB 650 increases the state tax on net gaming proceeds from mobile sports wagering from fifteen to seventeen percent. Two percent of the revenue generated from this increased tax will be dedicated to a newly established Overdetention Compensation Fund. This fund, administered by the Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement, will compensate individuals at a rate of seventy dollars per day for each day they were incarcerated beyond their scheduled release date. Receiving this compensation does not prevent individuals from pursuing other civil remedies for their overdetention.
