HEALTH CARE/FACILITIES: Modifies the regulatory authority of the Louisiana Department of Health in relation to hospital classifications

Removed the exemption allowing rural hospitals to qualify for Level III, neonatal, or obstetric medical services without maintaining a healthcare professional with credentials to administer obstetric anesthesia on a twenty-four-hour, seven-day-a-week on-call basis.

Modified the regulatory authority of the Department of Health to require all hospitals, including those previously exempt, to adhere to minimum standards regarding the availability of anesthesia services for obstetric care.

Changed the effective date of the Act from a fixed calendar date (January 1, 2026) to the date of gubernatorial signature or the expiration of the time for the bill to become law without signature.

Deleted the exemption allowing rural hospitals to bypass the 24/7 on-call requirement for obstetric anesthesia professionals.

Changed eligibility criteria for Level III, neonatal, and obstetric medical services so that rural hospitals must now maintain the same anesthesia staffing standards as other hospitals.

Maintained the effective date of January 1, 2026, for the new staffing requirements.
