SB 102 Louisiana Senate · 2024 Regular Session

PORTS/HARBORS/TERMINALS: Provides for policing of the Port of Delcambre, Twin Parish Port District. (gov sig)

This bill updates the laws governing the Port of Delcambre and the Twin Parish Port District to allow their commissions to establish and pay for local port and harbor police forces. The new police officers must be state residents who have completed a certified peace officer training course and are at least 18 years old. When these officers make an arrest, they must turn the suspect over to the local parish sheriff, while still permitting the sheriff to make arrests in those areas. Additionally, the port commissions are authorized to create and modify their own rules for managing and controlling the police force.
