INSURANCE/GROUP-SHERIFFS: Creates an Employee Insurance Fund for the LaSalle Parish Sheriff's Office

This bill creates a permanent fund specifically for the LaSalle Parish Sheriff's Office to help pay insurance premiums for retired sheriffs and deputy sheriffs. The sheriff can voluntarily deposit money into the fund, which must then be invested in the state's Asset Management Pool, with the goal of reaching a balance of $2.5 million before any earnings can be withdrawn. An advisory board composed of the sheriff, a retired officer, and an active deputy will oversee investment decisions, while an annual audit will be conducted by the legislative auditor. If the fund's balance falls below the $2.5 million threshold, any unpaid insurance costs must be covered by the sheriff's general operating budget instead.
