This Iowa bill (HSB 587) restricts conflicts of interest for officials overseeing alcohol licensing. It limits alcohol business interests for members of the alcoholic beverage commission (capping at two members with such ties, except as institutional investors) and prohibits them from using their position to influence political views. The bill also bans the Department of Revenue director and employees from having alcohol business interests, licensing or enforcing rules against entities they have ownership ties to, or controlling alcohol purchases through their employment. Violations could lead to disciplinary action, including termination, while personal alcohol possession remains permitted.
