HUMANE EUTHANASIA OF WILDLIFE
Summary
Amends the Wildlife Code. Provides that companion animals are not included in the definition of "wildlife". Provides that it is unlawful for anyone holding a nuisance wildlife control permit to drown, burn, or use any unacceptable agents as a method of euthanasia. Provides that the Department may authorize owners and tenants of lands or their agents to remove or euthanize (instead of destroy) any wild bird or wild animal known to be destroying property or causing a risk to human health or safety. Provides that animals that cause property damage or pose a risk to human health or safety shall be given to a licensed wildlife rehabilitator, released on site, relocated or humanely euthanized. Provides that euthanized specimens be given to a bona-fide public or State scientific, educational, or zoological institution. Provides that any method or agent of euthanasia must be prescribed as acceptable or conditionally acceptable in the Report of the American Veterinary Medical Association Panel on Euthanasia. Provides that the Department of Natural Resources "shall" (instead of "may") require periodic reports regarding the taking of wildlife. Expands the list of information to be reported. Adds a definition for "humane euthanasia". Effective January 1, 2004.
