RELATING TO HISTORIC PRESERVATION REVIEWS.
What changed between versions
DHHL now has authority to review historic preservation effects of proposed projects on its lands instead of only consulting with the Department of Land and Natural Resources.
DHHL reviews must be conducted by a designated preservation officer with specific professional qualifications (archaeologist, architectural historian, ethnographer, historian, or physical anthropologist) and written delegation of authority.
DHHL must notify the Department of Land and Natural Resources when initiating reviews and provide written concurrence or nonconcurrence at the end of each review.
All review reports, maps, and documents must be provided to the Department of Land and Natural Resources for incorporation into the historic preservation digital document management system and library.
Island burial councils are now administratively placed under the Office of Hawaiian Affairs instead of the Department of Land and Natural Resources.
DHHL retains authority to review projects affecting properties listed or nominated for the Hawaii or National Registers of Historic Places.
