Informing the Legislature that on June 27, 2025, the Governor signed the following bill into law: SB140 SD2 HD1 CD1 (ACT 240).

This bill requires all firewood imported into Hawaii to be heat-treated and labeled with certification from a federal or state agency, or to have prior authorization from the Hawaii Department of Agriculture. It prohibits the importation of untreated firewood without a permit, aiming to prevent the spread of invasive pests like the emerald ash borer. Importers must maintain and provide records of their firewood imports for at least two years upon request. The law targets biosecurity risks to Hawaii's native forests, agriculture, and environment by closing a regulatory gap in firewood handling.
