Informing the Legislature that on June 6, 2025, the Governor signed the following bill into law: SB1146 SD1 HD1 CD1 (ACT 183).

This bill appropriates $425,000 for fiscal year 2025-2026 and $150,000 for fiscal year 2026-2027 to the University of Hawaii to address debris in the Ala Wai canal. The funds will support developing a debris management and water quality control plan for the Ala Wai watershed, plus establish two graduate assistant positions to assist with the plan. The University of Hawaii will use these resources to help manage floating debris that has harmed recreational activities and aquatic habitats near the canal. The bill takes effect on July 1, 2025.
