ENCOURAGING THE STATE TO CONSIDER THE INITIATION OF A SISTER-STATE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN HAWAII AND THE SPANISH PROVINCE OF THE BALEARIC ISLANDS.

This Senate resolution urges the Hawaii Sister-State Committee to recommend establishing a formal sister-state relationship between Hawaii and the Spanish province of the Balearic Islands. The bill highlights that both regions share similar populations, tourism-dependent economies, and common challenges such as housing shortages, environmental threats, and reliance on imported food. It notes that the Balearic Islands have recently implemented policies similar to those debated in Hawaii, suggesting a valuable opportunity for mutual learning and cooperation. If the committee recommends the partnership, the Legislature may formally adopt it through a concurrent resolution or session law.
