Department of For-Hire Vehicles Delivery Vehicle Traffic Enforcement Expansion Emergency Amendment Act of 2024

This bill authorizes the District of Columbia's Department of For-Hire Vehicles to enforce traffic laws against delivery vehicles, such as those used by food and parcel services. It achieves this by legally defining these delivery vehicles as a new category and granting officers the power to stop them for traffic violations under specific protocols. The law also requires that officers receive training on how to handle these vehicles and clarifies that stops are generally prohibited unless there is reasonable suspicion of a violation. As an emergency measure, the act is designed to remain in effect for no longer than 90 days after approval.
