Black Queer History Commission Establishment Act of 2023 (now known as "“Black LGBTQ History Preservation Establishment Amendment Act of 2024")

This act directs the Office of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning Affairs to create a comprehensive report on Black LGBTQIA+ history in Washington, D.C. The report will cover specific topics such as the Black Pride Movement, the contributions of Black Trans people, and the impact of the AIDS Crisis, while also providing curriculum recommendations for public schools. To ensure accuracy and community input, the Office must consult experts, hold public meetings, and allow for a public comment period on a draft before the final document is submitted to city officials by May 1, 2025. Additionally, the law establishes a six-member advisory committee to guide the project and authorizes stipends for committee members to cover their time and expenses.
