Losing Outdated, Violent Exceptions Amendment Act of 2023

This bill removes a religious exemption from District of Columbia laws that require doctors and institutions to report suspected child physical abuse. Previously, providers could avoid reporting if they believed the abuse was part of a religious practice, but this change eliminates that exception. As a result, all healthcare professionals and institutions in the district must now report any suspected cases of physical abuse to authorities without exception. The law applies to anyone providing medical care or working at institutions within the district who encounter signs of child abuse.
