AN ACT TO AMEND TITLE 11 OF THE DELAWARE CODE RELATING TO WORK BY INMATES.
What changed between versions
The discharge provision (former Section 2) that would have wiped out all outstanding balances owed by individuals for fees, costs, interest, or charges under the old section 6532(f)(3) was removed from the final bill. People who already owe money under that provision will still be liable.
The amendment to section 6532(f) now explicitly removes subsection (3), which allowed the Department of Corrections to deduct a proportionate share of incarceration costs (room, board, medical care, legal services, education, training, and overhead) from inmate accounts. Subsections (1) for support payments and (2) for court costs and fines remain intact.
Additional sponsors were added: Rep. Lambert joined Sen. Seigfried as primary sponsors, with Sens. Cruce, Hansen, Lockman, Pinkney, Sokola, Sturgeon and Reps. Berry, Morrison, Romer, Snyder-Hall listed as additional supporters.
Technical corrections were made to conform existing law to the standards of the Delaware Legislative Drafting Manual, as noted in the new synopsis.
