SB 455 Connecticut Senate · 2026 Regular Session

AN ACT CONCERNING JURISDICTION OVER FARMING OCCURRING ON CERTAIN STATE LANDS.

This bill transfers authority over farming activities on state-owned lands from the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection to the Department of Agriculture. Starting July 1, 2026, the Department of Agriculture will oversee all farming on state property, including lands managed by the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. The law also requires that any lease agreements for farming on these lands be renewed directly between the Department of Agriculture and the property owner. This change centralizes agricultural oversight within the state's agriculture department rather than the environmental protection agency.
