This bill, the Alaska Coastal Micro-Fisheries Act, simplifies regulations for small-scale commercial fishers operating vessels under 50 or 65 feet in length. Part 123) and harvest low-risk species, while allowing up to 5,000 pounds of fish to be processed and frozen aboard per voyage. The bill also caps annual fees for small fishers (harvesting under 10,000 pounds yearly) at $100 and requires state agencies to streamline regulations, prioritizing rural coastal communities facing economic challenges like high costs and market access barriers. The changes take effect July 1, 2026.
